Welcome To Palm Bay

By Cyrena Sky

PALM BAY, Fla – Palm Bay is a place many citizens love, made friends and hold many traditions to heart.

“the coolest thing that palm bay does, is Centerpointe church in palm bay Florida host a backpack event every single year where they give away back packs, school supplies to children who have a need. go palm bay for doing whats right for the children,” Vicky Finsted said, a principle of an elementary school.

These citizens of Palm Bay have shown that palm bay is definitely a southern town. They enjoy doing things like, four-wheeling, hunting, shooting, fishing and mudding.

Another Palm Bay tradition that the individuals I interviewed shared was lighting up their street with Christmas lights. Every year for the past 3 years they have put together a light show that beat matches to music. While driving by, you can tune-in to 88.3 fm.

The citizens of Palm Bay love their town and the traditions that come along with it. Although they feel this way some like, Kyle Owen are young and have dreams they want to pursue outside of Palm Bay .

“I love Palm Bay. I’m here for the ride til I find something new,” Kyle Owen said.

Sorority Disney Retreat

By Cyrena Sky

Sorority Sigma Delta Tau takes their new members on a Disney Retreat.

This trip is for the girls to get to know one another, have fun, learn about each other’s past and become closer sisters. The girls stay at a hotel and play fun ice breakers for the night. The next morning comes around and the girls head on over to Disney.

“This Disney Retreat has been really cool and even overnight I have made so many bonds and I am really excited to go to Disney and make more friends” Bailey says.

This is a tradition that Sigma Delta Tau does every year for its new members. The retreat is so successful in connecting the girls in ways they didn’t think they would connect in.

“having been a part of this for a semester, has really helped me feel more involved at USF and a part of something bigger than myself,” Madison says.

At Disney the girls got to go on rides, eat candy and share personal stories with one another. Disney really does use its magic on these sisters.

Communication with Parents About College

By Cyrena Sky

TAMPA, Fla. – Parent are able to be involved with their children while at college, feel like their child will be comfortable and even gain knowledge about USF resources.

USF offers students and their family’s fun and informative sessions all year long. The sessions are held in the MSC throughout the semester. The most known meeting parents know about are held in the Ballroom during orientation. You can even visit the New Students Connections office to get connected to different activities on campus or get the same information online. If you are looking for more than just events for new students, you can go to USF’s Website and find the Admissions Office, campus wide opportunities, semester schedules and much more.

Although there are many opportunities for students to engage on their own, there are just as many for the parents to become involved in as well. Student Connections offers University of South Florida students and families a weekend full of fun and information. The family weekend includes kayaking, rope courses, school tours, art show tours, sorority and fraternity life open houses and so much more. These activities are very informative to the parents. (How is it informative?)

“When we went to parents’ weekend, I got to go kayaking and go to the USF game with her. That was a lot of fun. That was actually our first time kayaking together and we saw an alligator, which I didn’t want to go anywhere near. But we stayed in the kayak and we made it through. We had a great time together thanks to student connections.” Karen O’Brien said.

USF brings comfort to many parents knowing that there are many safety resources.

“I feel safe with my daughter going to USF. That was a huge concern for me when she left for college. The security they have at USF is great.” Karen O’Brien stated.

University of South Florida has a safe team, safe spots and much more. If your child is ever in need of help, there are tons of blue light safe spots for them to find and press the emergency button. There is a police department on campus dedicated to USF and the safety of the student here. If a student or you have any more question on the different ways USF bring safety to campus you can visit this website.

USF Greek Affiliated Sororities

By Cyrena Sky

TAMPA, Fla. – University of South Florida offers 50 Chapter that you can join on campus and 12 of them are Greek affiliated sororities.

Sororities offer you many opportunities for you.

“It’s basically the whole package, where you get to help other people with our philanthropies. Some that we (Sigma Delta Tau) do are PCAA, which is Prevent Child Abuse in America.”

Not only can you participate and donate towards the philanthropy your sorority you join does, but you are able to go and be active in other chapters philanthropic events.

Sororities have two different times when you can join. The first time is going to be during the first week of the Fall semester. Don’t worry too much, although this is a stressful week on its own, USF does not have recruitment on the weekdays. It is held on the weekends, so students can adjust to their classes and join something that could last a lifetime. The second opportunity for you to join a sorority it in Spring. This is what they call an informal recruitment. The process is not nearly as long as Fall recruitment, but you still end up in the home you are meant to be in. To find more information on dates, attire and more you can visit this website.

Supper is Wolf Stew for The Three Little Pigs: Interrupted Action

A wolf was in the woods on the prowl for some delicious food. He arrived at a house and blows it completely down to eat the pig that hid inside! He didn’t catch the pig who was inside, fortunately, but he did see where the pig ran. Arriving at the second house, the wolf blew and blew until he blew the second little pigs house down. The wolf filled with rage and greed stormed into the fallen house and missed both pigs this time. The two pigs scurried off to the third little pigs home for safety. The wolf followed but could not blow this house down. He climbed on the roof and as he was getting ready to enter through the chimney, the first little pig was fearful and shameful. He tells us in this moment he blurted out, “We can’t be lazy like we have been all day let’s do something!” The first little pig was sluggish and built his house of straw earlier. The second was lazy but feeling a bit more ambitious and built his house of sticks. The third house exhibited no laziness and was built of bricks. The three pigs stressed their concern about their laziness and how if they would have worked harder on their houses, they wouldn’t have been the wolf’s first target. The pigs could hear the wolf falling down the chimney but fortunately they built a fire in the chimney. The wolf fell through the chimney into the fire and as the pigs say, “supper was served”.
